AFBF welcomes details on ag funds
The American Farm Bureau says it welcomes the details of the $19 Billion dollars in direct payments to farmers from the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program.
Payments will go directly to farmers who have suffered a five-percent or greater price loss and who are facing large marketing costs because of the pandemic.
AFBF President Zippy Duvall says the aid “can’t arrive soon enough” because many farmers are filing for bankruptcy and face unprecedented losses. Duvall says they’re grateful to the Administration and Congress for sending the aid to farmers and ranchers who are “reeling from the breakdown in distribution channels.” While the aid is critically important, Duvall says the long-term effects are still rippling through the farm economy and the livestock sector is a prime example.
