80% of U.S. corn, 53% of soybeans planted

The USDA says corn and soybean planting remains solidly ahead of average. That was despite another mixed week of planting weather in the Corn Belt, including heavy rainfall and flooding in parts of the region.

As of Sunday, 80% of U.S. corn is planted, compared to 67% a week ago and the five-year average of 71%, with 43% of the crop emerged, compared to 40% on average.

53% of U.S. soybeans are planted, compared to 38% both last week and typically this time of year, with 18% emerged, compared to 12% on average.

52% of U.S. winter wheat is rated good to excellent, down 1% on the week, with heading behind normal at 56%.

60% of spring wheat is planted and 30% has emerged, both significantly slower than average because of heavy rain in parts of the northern U.S. Plains.

44% of cotton is planted, compared to 40% on average.

81% of U.S. rice is planted and 57% has emerged, behind their respective usual paces.

32% of sorghum is planted, compared to 30% on average.

47% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are rated good to excellent, down 1% on the week and 19% below a year ago.
