Ag market supply chain concerns
Former U.S. Chief Ag Negotiator Darci Vetter has expressed concern about the ag market supply chain.
“What I’m concerned about is these transportation bottlenecks and the lack of income from being able to sell current crops preventing the ability to access inputs,” she says.
Vetter says financing uncertainties are also a concern especially as crop prices have been low for several years.
“Some farmers are highly leveraged or very extended and will need to know and show they have a market for this next crop to get financing to plant it and that uncertainty about the length of time it will take for markets to return to normal creates some uncertainty around that financing,” she says.
Vetter made these comments during a National Press Foundation webinar Tuesday.
