More packing plants are reopening this week
More meatpacking plants will be resuming operations this week, although most will be operating at much-reduced capacity due to worker illnesses and absenteeism.
The USDA on Friday issued a list of 14 plants that were back online or set to resume slaughter.
Labor advocates are criticizing the Trump Administration for “rushing” plants to reopen. The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union called it a “a reckless move that will put American lives at risk and further endanger the long-term security of our nation’s food supply”.
