New Minnesota Turkey Growers director prioritizes biosecurity and labor

The new executive director of the Minnesota Turkey Growers says biosecurity and labor remain top-of-mind for the Association.

Sarah Anderson started in her role April sixth and tells Brownfield those two issues are even more critical given the pandemic.

“Biosecurity is a huge issue, making sure that our turkey population is safe, and free of any biohazards that are out there.”

She says the ag labor market continues to be in flux.

“We’re going to see some changes here due to COVID-19, so we want to make sure that we have an ample supply of workers who can help to keep the production up to pace for the demand that we have here in the state and on a national level as well.”

Anderson was raised on a family farm in Kandiyohi County and was a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2007 to 2019.

Prior to joining the Minnesota Turkey Growers, she was director of Literacy Matters Foundation.
