Lawmakers ask Congress to make investment in broadband
The coronavirus pandemic has highlighted connectivity disparities across rural America and a bipartisan group of more than 70 House lawmakers are asking congressional leaders to prioritize large-scale federal investment in rural broadband.
In a letter, the lawmakers are asking both chambers of Congress to include high-speed broadband funding in any infrastructure package related to the nation’s COVID-19 response.
The lawmakers say the “economic mobility and access to the modern economy of Americans should not be determined by a zip code.”
Representatives that signed the letter include Rodney Davis of Illinois, Jack Bergman of Michigan, Jan Schakowsky of Illinois, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Ron Kind of Wisconsin, Jim Baird of Indiana, Blaine Luetkemeyer of Missouri, Mike Bost of Illinois, Angie Craig of Minnesota, Peter Stauber of Minnesota, Abby Finkenauer of Iowa, Cheri Bustos of Illinois, Elissa Slotkin of Michigan, Marcy Kaptur of Ohio, Darin LaHood of Illinois, Marcia Fudge of Ohio, Emanuel Cleaver II of Missouri, Andre Carson of Indiana, and Dusty Johnson of South Dakota.
