DFA asking food providers to ‘Add An Ounce’

Dairy Farmers of America, the largest producer of fluid milk in the U.S., is asking for help moving more dairy products as the industry works to shift the market imbalance caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Dennis Rodenbaugh, is executive vice president of DFA.

“All fast food, all meal providers, we’re asking that you add an ounce of cheese to every taco, to every burger, to every sandwich. Add two ounces to every pizza.”

Rodenbaugh, a guest on the Kansas City Agribusiness Council webinar last week, says adding an ounce will help consumers and farmers.

“Consumers deserve better flavor and the best nutrition today as things are difficult. And do this for the farmers who are literally seeing their milk, their life’s work and passion, poured down a drain.”

DFA is also urging retailers to “tear down” their signs that limit purchases of milk and dairy put up when those items were initially in SHORT supply at the start of the pandemic.

“We appreciate the partnership and the support from all of our friends in the retail sector but dairy’s open for business and we’re ready to deliver.”

As of late last week, Rodenbaugh said the dairy industry was producing 10% more milk than the market needs.
