Hawley urges emergency farm-to-foodbank program
Missouri U.S. Senator Josh Hawley is urging Ag Secretary Perdue to use part of the coronavirus relief fund to set up an emergency farm-to-foodbank program.
In his letter to Perdue, Hawley says there has to be a way for healthy produce, being destroyed by some farmers because of market disruptions, to reach people in need.
Hawley says the 2018 Farm Bill has a model for such a program to ensure that feeding organizations, including faith-based groups, have that fresh produce delivered to them. He says there should be no 50% state-contribution match for such deliveries.
