Nebraska Farm Bureau calls for DOJ investigation of cattle markets

Add Nebraska Farm Bureau to the list of groups and politicians calling for the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate potential manipulation of cattle markets.

Farm Bureau president Steve Nelson points to the “alarming disparity” between farm-level prices for cattle and wholesale prices for beef. He says the price disparity and volatility following the Holcomb, Kansas beef plant fire and the current COVID-19 outbreak have highlighted long-term concerns expressed by cattle producers.

Nelson says now is the time for DOJ to fully examine the situation and prosecute any wrongdoing.
