USDA reports start of corn planting in Illinois

Corn planting began in Illinois last week, with an average of four and a half days deemed suitable for fieldwork in the USDA’s weekly crop progress and condition report.

As of Sunday, 1% of the corn crop is in the ground, slightly behind the five-year average of 2%.

One percent of winter wheat has headed which is in line with last year and the five-year average. The crop is rated 61% good to excellent.

Half of Illinois pastures are were rated good to excellent last week.
