USDA: 3% of U.S. corn planted
U.S. corn planting is officially underway. The USDA says that as of Sunday, 3% of the expected 97 million acres are planted, compared to the five-year average of 4%, with most of that progress is in southern and southeastern areas of the Corn Belt.
6% of winter wheat has headed, compared to 7% on average, with 62% of the crop rated good to excellent, steady with last week.
5% of spring wheat is planted, compared to the usual pace of 9%.
9% of cotton is planted, compared to 6% normally this time of year, while 21% of rice is planted, compared to 31% on average, with 15% of the crop emerged, a little ahead of schedule.
18% of sorghum is planted, compared to 17% normally in mid-April.
Next week’s report is expected to have the USDA’s first soybean planting pace estimate of the season.
