Minnesota farmer has rotation locked in
A west-central Minnesota farmer says with inputs set, his 2020 crop rotation is locked in.
Chad Willis, who grows corn and soybeans near Willmar (WILL-mer), says the USDA Prospective Planting estimate of 97 million corn acres won’t change his plans.
“With the fall fertilizer and whatnot, I’m pretty much (sticking with my) 50/50 rotation. I’m not changing anything.”
He tells Brownfield it’ll be at least a couple weeks before he can get in the field.
“I just hooked up the field cultivator (this week), so I’m still just getting things ready to go. Depending on the weather, the rainfall, temperatures and whatnot, I never get too excited before about (April) 20th.”
Willis says his area had good snow cover this winter, and recent rains have helped lift most of the frost out of the ground.
