Dairy co-op leader supports Milk Crisis Plan

A dairy cooperative leader says the Dairy Crisis Plan presented to the USDA by the International Dairy Foods Association and National Milk Producers should be considered. Jeff Lyon with FarmFirst Dairy Cooperative says, “They’re hitting a lot of different things that all together, might help.”

Lyon tells Brownfield the IDFA-National Milk plan proposes several pieces that would help. “Pay farmers more money if they reduce production by 10% to try to get that milk out of production, have the food programs for the food banks, those kinds of things, some forgiveness of loans in the processing area.”

Lyon says he also supports reopening the enrollment for the Dairy Margin Coverage risk management program, which is part of the proposal.
