Compost facility still open for those with sticker

The Compost Facility at the Muscatine Transfer Station remains open for residents of Muscatine and Fruitland to deposit yard waste but only to those who have the Compost Sticker. The Compost sticker identifies residents of Muscatine and Fruitland who can take yard waste to the Compost Facility for free.

Firewood is also available for area residents when the site is open but
only if they already have a signed release form with the Transfer
Station. These forms are currently unavailable since the Transfer Station is closed to the public in response to COVID-19 guidelines.

Mulch is also available at the Compost Facility to hand load. However, the Transfer Station is accepting requests for deliveries of mulch but those deliveries will not be scheduled until after public access to city facilities is granted.

At this time, no dirt or compost is available from the Compost Facility.

The Muscatine Transfer Station is in the process of mailing out the Compost Sticker to residents of Muscatine and Fruitland who do not currently have one according to David Popp, Solid Waste Manager for the City of Muscatine. Stickers would normally be available for pickup at the Transfer Station, Public Works, or City Hall but these facilities are currently closed to the public in response to COVID-19 guidelines.

Residents who do not already have a sticker need to call the Transfer Station, Public Works, or City Hall to request a Compost Sticker. Transfer Station staff will verify that the resident does not already have a sticker and confirm their residency the sticker is mailed out.
Residents requesting a sticker will be asked for their name, address, phone number, and make and model of the vehicle they will use to bring waste to the Compost Facility.

Only residents who currently have a Compost sticker will be allowed entry into the Compost Facility. The attendant will turn away drivers who not have a sticker at the present time as the attendant will not be accepting cash or payment by check from non-residents.

The site is located at the Muscatine Transfer Station, 1000 S. Houser St., Muscatine. Regular hours are 12-6 p.m. Sunday through Friday and from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturdays.
