Farmer seeing more appreciation for food supply chain amid pandemic
A southeast Minnesota farmer sees the COVID-19 outbreak as a wake-up call for people who don’t appreciate the U.S. food supply chain.
Ryan Buck of Goodhue says having agriculture designated as essential during the pandemic speaks volumes.
“This really woke a lot of people up that food doesn’t come from the grocery store, it comes from the farm.”
Through social media, Buck tells Brownfield he’s seeing a newfound respect for farmers, truckers, and everybody who helps keep grocery stores stocked full.
“And even the medical field, you know they’re right in the heat of the battle. We can’t thank them enough for what they’re doing right now. And we send out prayers to them and their families that they stay safe too.
Buck says the pandemic has not impacted his supply of seed and chemical for spring planting. But he is frustrated by the negative response of the corn and soybean markets.
