Farmer says ag industry is taking extra precautions due to COVID-19

Southern Ohio Farmer Greg Corcoran says most of their ag inputs for the growing season have been delivered, but they’re taking extra precautions because of the coronavirus pandemic.

“There have been extra steps at the grain elevators that they’ve taken, there have been extra steps within different packaging facilities that we deliver to, and within our own operation we’ve taken an extra step in requiring every worker that comes in to have their temperature checked,” he says.

Corcoran says he has seen some positives during this time of uncertainty…“Our freezer beef comes in at this time and typically out of our 80 or so we only sell about 50-55 steers, but this year because demand was so high we sold all of ours which is unheard of,” he says. “Another positive that we’ve seen is the workforce is available right now, so we’re able to get workers that we wouldn’t normally be able to during these busy times of spring.”

Corcoran, a fifth-generation farmer, raises soybeans, corn, popcorn, and beef cattle in Ross, Pike, and Scioto counties.
