Very little movement in Iowa cropland values

Iowa cropland values showed very little movement over the past six months, according to the latest survey of Iowa land realtors.

The survey shows a statewide average increase of one-tenth of one percent since September 2019. Average cropland values in Iowa are now up about one percent from a year ago.

The statewide average for high quality cropland was $9,448 per acre, ranging from $11,556 in the northwest to $6,907 in the south-central district.

The realtors say major factors supporting farmland values include a tight supply of quality farms on the market, MFP Payments, low interest rates, and above average yields in many areas. Major negative factors include continued trade uncertainty and low commodity prices that are straining net farm incomes.

The survey is conducted biannually by the Iowa chapter of the Realtors Land Institute.
