Blunt says Senate worked hard to include ag aid
Missouri Senator Roy Blunt says he and fellow senators worked hard to get agriculture provisions in the federal stimulus package that passed the Senate Thursday. It includes 9-and-a-half billion dollars for livestock, specialty crops, and local food systems.
“Just to be sure that we’re funding the agricultural producers that have been impacted by Covid-19 because they couldn’t get work, they couldn’t get help to help with their specialty crop, they couldn’t get their crop for some reason delivered in a way that they might often get that done.”
Blunt says the stimulus will help livestock producers at an especially tough time, “Livestock producers have seen a lot of difficulty now in other countries whose economies have closed down, having the markets that they would normally have in Japan or China or other places.”
The package will add another $14 billion to the USDA’s Commodity Credit Corporation which Blunt says farm families can go to and get credit.
The U.S. House is expected to vote on the stimulus today.
