Farmer resiliency to be tested yet again

The head of Ag Country Farm Credit Services says the resiliency of farmers will be tested again this year.

Marc Knisely tells Brownfield the markets had been suffering for several years before the coronavirus outbreak weakened prices even more.

“Obviously we would’ve preferred a little better launching spot and a little longer runway to address this current situation.”

Ag Country Farm Credit is headquartered in North Dakota with offices in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

He says their farmer-members are coming off a rough 2019.

“Everything from unharvested corn yet in North Dakota, to obviously everybody’s aware of the dairy situation in Wisconsin. And a couple of pretty tough crop production years in southern Minnesota as well.”

Knisely says farmers are trying to stay ahead of the evolving COVID-19 situation, but in a lot of cases the pandemic is causing extra work and stress.
