The City of Muscatine is working with local, state, and federal partners to keep our community informed about COVID-19, or coronavirus. Please be assured that we are doing all that we can to respond to this pandemic in a safe and timely manner. Hourly updates ensure that we can make informed decisions to keep the public safe in Muscatine.
The Iowa Department of Public Health recommendations are what we are looking to for answers and guidance with support from Muscatine County Public Health, Muscatine County Emergency Management, and the Center for Infectious Disease Control. Public Safety is our utmost priority and following the IDPH recommendations are what will help us achieve and maintain that objective.
As of this morning, there are 23 cases of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the State of Iowa with none reported in Muscatine County. Slowing the spread of Covid-19 will allow our health care system to have the capacity to address the pandemic and serve public need.
Recommendations are to practice the 3 C’s – cover your cough, clean your hands, and contain your germs by staying home.
Governor Reynolds issued a State of Public Health Disaster Emergency this morning to address the current situation which includes closing fitness centers, theatres, casinos, senior centers, and restaurants and bars (allowing only service where the food is picked up and eaten off site). It also mandates no gatherings of 10 or more people.
The City of Muscatine has closed the Muscatine Art Center and the Musser Public Library/HNI Community Center, and others may follow in the near future. The Muscatine Transfer Station and Department of Public Works have restricted public access. All other City services remain currently unchanged but may change as more information becomes available.
Please remain calm during this difficult time, follow the recommended practices, and be respectful in your purchases of supplies to ensure that everyone has access to what they need.
