Fifth month of increasing dairy exports
The U.S. Dairy Export Council says record ingredient sales of nonfat dry to Southeast Asia led to the fifth straight month of dairy export growth in January.
Shipment volumes were 21 percent higher than 2019, totaling more than 184,000 tons, with values up nearly 30 percent to more than $554 million, the most in almost five years.
Nonfat dry milk/skim milk powder exports were up more than 40 percent from last year with increased purchases coming from Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam.
Whey exports were 18 percent higher than 2019 with more than a 30 percent increase to China. Shipments of lactose were up 16 percent and cheese exports were fractionally higher.
January exports were down for butterfat (-23 percent), whole milk powder (-8 percent), and fluid milk/cream (-5 percent).
