Corn growers highlight sustainability with high-octane fuels

The National Corn Growers Association highlighted the importance of a high-octane, low-carbon fuel standard during Commodity Classic.

Kevin Ross is the president of NCGA.

“There’s going to be some discussion of this in DC because we have the ability to grow some big crops, but we’re going to have to use a lot of these big crops and consume them here as well as at the same cleaning the air, cleaning our water, and making sure we’re doing things right,” he says. “It’s all part of a big overall piece of sustainable fuel and sustainable farming.”

Randy DeSutter, vice president of the Illinois Corn Growers Association, says corn growers are working to promote higher blends of ethanol so that cars are more efficient and can compete with electric cars.

“It’s important for the future of the ethanol industry because if we can’t compete with the electric cars, ethanol may go by the wayside for liquid fuels,” he says. “So, we really have to work to make the cars more efficient and get more miles per gallon so we’re more competitive.”
