EPA expected to re-register generic chlorpyrifos
The EPA reportedly will keep the insecticide chlorpyrifos legal. Earlier this month Corteva said it would no longer make the insecticide which goes mostly by the name of Lorsban.
EPA tells DTN that it will continue with the re-registration of the active ingredient so generic forms of chlorpyrifos will remain available.
EPA has defended the chemical in lawsuits that say it can affect neuro-development in people, especially infants.
Corteva says it is dropping chlorpyrifos for business reasons since sales have dropped off.
