Norma Jean Mikel

MUSCATINE, Iowa – Norma Jean Mikel, 86, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2020, at Genesis East Medical Center in Davenport.

Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2020, at Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Pastor Dan Schoepf will officiate. Burial will be in Letts Cemetery. A luncheon will be held following the burial at the Fruitland Community Center.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2020, at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the family c/o Barney. Online condolences: www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

Norma was born on October 17, 1933, in Muscatine, the daughter of Joseph and Evelyn Shoemaker Truitt. She married Barney Mikel on July 11, 1974, in Muscatine.

Norma enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and quilting. She loved being outdoors, whether she was fishing, camping, or gardening and canning. Most of all, she enjoyed family gatherings.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Barney of Muscatine; five sons of Muscatine, Rick Bodman (Rose), Rod Bodman (JoEllen), Jim Bodman (Annie), John Bodman Jr. (Renee), and Chuck Bair; two daughters, Cheryl Little (Bryan) of Muscatine and Karen Olderog (Darrell), of Waukee; one brother, Jerry Truitt (Marilyn), of Muscatine; three sisters, Esther Sherman of Hartsel, AL, Bonnie Lewis, and Theda Lewis, both of Muscatine; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Evelyn Truitt; one daughter, Julie Terpenning; two granddaughters, Angie Bodman and Melissa Bodman; two brothers, Donald and Jody Truitt; three sisters, Lillian Truitt in infancy, Betty Holladay, and Kathy Blakley; and dearly loved brothers-in-law, Donnie, Snooks, and Gene.
