Alex Oppel earns Eagle Scout Award

Alex Oppel of Troop 783 in Muscatine achieved the distinguished rank of Eagle Scout. Oppel’s Eagle Scout ceremony was celebrated at First Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Nov. 24. Oppel earned 22 merit badges during his scouting career and held leadership positions such as assistant senior patrol leader and quartermaster.

Oppel’s Eagle Scout project to serve his community consisted of planting trees and shrubs at Muscatine’s soccer complex expansion in May 2019. He was assisted in the effort by 12 volunteers, including four active Scouts and four Eagle Scout alumni from Troop 783.

The son of Craig and Natalie Oppel of Muscatine, Oppel attends Muscatine High School and will graduate in 2020. He plays viola in the high school orchestra, plays on the high school baseball team, and has been active in his church youth group. Oppel plans to attend Syracuse University to major in sport analytics.
