Mayor Evelyn Schauland celebrates 100th birthday

Muscatine’s beloved former Mayor Evelyn Schauland recently turned 100 years old. Family and friends gathered to honor her with a card shower.

According to a family member, Evelyn would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of well wishes for her 100th birthday. She was thrilled to review the personal messages on cards and was able to recall many treasured memories.

Schauland spent 50 years teaching kindergarten at Jefferson Elementary School in Muscatine. She served six years as mayor and was the city’s first female mayor.
