Authorities have identified the victim of Wednesday’s fatal house fire in Fairport as Randall Lee McDonald, 66.

Medical and dental records and multiple interviews with family were used in the identification, said Richard Hines of the Muscatine County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Authorities say multiple area fire departments responded to the structure fire reported in the 3300 block of Water Street about 5:30 p.m.

Fire departments from Montpelier, Durant, Blue Grass and others responded, fighting the fire throughout the night. The Blue Grass & Buffalo Fire Department also assisted to pump water from the Mississippi River.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.

“Our office and staff sends our deepest sympathy to the family and hope that everyone do the same and give them the opportunity to grieve the loss of their son, brother and neighbor,” Hines said. “Our thanks go out to the state fire marshal’s office, the local volunteer fire departments, and the Muscatine County Sheriff’s Department.”

Authorities have not yet released the name of the victim and the cause of the fire is under investigation. Photo by Jim Elias
