Police are searching the driver who struck and killed a Grandview firefighter who was bicycling along Highway 61 early Monday morning.

Devin A. Estabrook, a firefighter with Grandview Fire-Rescue and a member of the Louisa County Ambulance Service, was cycling in the northbound lanes about 4:50 a.m. near the intersection with 41st Street South in Muscatine when an unknown vehicle hit him. The driver did not stop, Muscatine police said.

Estabrook, 49, of Letts, was flown by helicopter to a hospital in Peoria, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said in a news release.

“Please keep Firefighter Estabrook’s family, both by blood and the Fire/EMS Service, in your thoughts,” Eastern Iowa Fireground Photos posted on Facebook. “Rest easy Firefighter Devin Estabrook. We have the watch from here.”

The Iowa State Patrol is the primary investigating agency for the crash, assisted by the Muscatine Police Department.

Both agencies are asking the public’s help in finding the driver of the vehicle that struck Estabrook. Anyone with information is asked to contact Lt. Anthony Kies of the Muscatine Police Department at 563-263-9922, extension 608. Individuals may also private message the Muscatine Police Department with information using the MPD Facebook page.
