Writers on the Avenue invites submissions for an upcoming anthology of inspirational writing and art. Lighthearted or soulful, tender or profound, we are looking for work that celebrates the human spirit and the simple beauty of the everyday—works about hope, miracles, or triumph over adversity, words that lift our spirits, soothe our hurts, strengthen our courage, and soften our hearts. Send us your poems, stories, essays, short plays, photos, or original art.

Multiple submissions are welcome. Previously published work will be considered. Send materials by April 30, 2017, to [email protected] or by mail to Misty Urban, WOTA President, 1554 West Acre Drive, Muscatine. Include your name, phone number, email or mailing address, and a 100-word bio with your submission. Include a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) for return of original work.

Contributors will receive a free copy of the anthology and retain all rights to their work. Proceeds from book sales will support WOTA’s efforts to foster the literary arts in and around Muscatine.

Writers on the Avenue is a non-profit literary organization that has been supporting Muscatine writers since 1989. Writers of all ages, genres, styles, and levels of experience are welcome to join. Monthly meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Student Center of Muscatine Community College. Annual membership costs $10; inquiry meetings are free.
