Muscatine Junior Joe Wieskamp was named Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of Iowa. Joe is the first player in Muscatine history to earn this national honor and is the first junior to win the award since current Dallas Maverick forward and Ames Iowa native Harrison Barnes won the award in 2008 and again in 2009. Wieskamp is Muscatine’s all-time leading scorer with 1,573 points and counting. He broke the record with a 50-point performance against Burlington. Wieskamp was named first team all-state this season averaging 30.4 points per game and 10 rebounds per game. The 6’6” shooting guard is currently ranked as one of the top 50 players in the country per national recruiting services and has verbally committed to play basketball at the University of Iowa. Wieskamp has a chance to become the post prolific scorer in class 4A history in Iowa. He trails former Hawkeye and Mason City standout Jeff Horner by 621 points.

Wieskamp spent this past weekend as a part of the Adidas Uprising Elite weekend in Santa Barbara, California as one of the top 14 players in the nation per Adidas. Wieskamp was humbled to receive the award, “It’s a great honor to receive such a prestigious award.
