Muskie tennis is a popular and active spring sport at Muscatine High School. The Muskie tennis season begins in March and ends in early May. Both the Muskie boys and girls team compete in the MAC and play tournaments against other districts. The Muskies are looking forward to a successful season of hard work and accomplishment.
Senior, Isabel Wester, is finishing up her tennis career this season with the Muskies. This is Isabel’s fourth season of tennis. Isabel is a very active member of the team by being cocaptain and a hard worker on the court. Isabel is also involved in NHS, Key Club, Interact Club, school plays, and A Capella Choir, but tennis is her primary activity. Being a senior on the girl’s tennis team has many benefits. The seniors get to design the girl’s tennis apparel and be honored on senior night with their friends, family and gifts from the underclassmen. Being a senior also means being a leader for the underclassmen. The seniors lead stretches and set an example for the rest of the team by working hard at practice and staying focused.
“My favorite memory from tennis was my first match ever; I hit the ball into someone else’s court. It was so embarrassing, but it was funny and made a great story,” says Wester.
This season the team hopes to make it the best season yet for their seniors. They hope to make and reach goals as a team and of course, win as many matches as possible.
