Last season, Wilton and Sigourney Keota faced off with the winner punching their ticket to the Iowa High School Athletic Association playoffs. The Cobras took last season’s matchup and got out to an early lead on Friday night. But the Beavers battled back. After trailing 22-12 going into the fourth quarter, the Beavers’ Jerome Mays scored on a QB keeper with less than 20 seconds left to secure the 36-30 victory and a second-place district finish, qualifying Wilton for the post-season. Wilton will travel to face Bellevue on Friday night for round one of the playoffs.
West Liberty handled Camanche with the Comets defeating the Indians 45-32. West Liberty then had to wait and see if #3-ranked Mount Vernon could defeat #7-ranked Williamsburg. The Mustangs did what they needed to do and gave West Liberty the assist they needed to make the playoffs. West Liberty will be on the road in the first round to take on Cascade Friday.
