Muscatine’s Children’s Choir is holding their annual music camp July 25 through 29. This is a camp for students who have completed kindergarten through 6th grade. The camp is divided into two groups by age: K-2 is from 9 – 11 a.m. and grades 3-6 meet from 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. The camp is open to anyone regardless if you are a Muscatine resident or a member of Wesley Church.
Wesley offers this camp every year to students who love to sing, speak, or like interacting with other students. Director Rick Smith organizes the camp and tries to make it suitable for all ages and genders.
“We continue to host this camp every year because Wesley is a very musically rich church, and we want to share the love for music and the gospel with other people,” says Smith.
All week the students will play games, learn about instruments, learn scales and singing technique, and prepare to perform a show at the end of the week. The students will take the musical skills they learn throughout the week and apply them to the show they put together.
The show the students are performing is called Life of the Party. This is the biblical story of Mary, Martha, and Jesus. As Martha is hustling to prepare for dinner, Mary is enjoying the presence of Jesus and Martha is angry that Mary is not helping her prepare for dinner. Jesus explains to Martha that Mary is doing the right thing by enjoying the presence of Jesus.
You can attend the camp performance on Friday, July 29 at 7:00 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church, 400 Iowa Avenue. All proceeds from the camp go toward food, props, and supplies for the students.
