A water main break has been reported at Central Middle School.  Water was reported to have been found in the basement of the school.  As students were already in route to school, the decision was made to close the school at 9:00 a.m.
The decision was made with student safety in mind. In addition to the water in the building being shut off while repairs are made, there was concern over the proximity to electrical units as well.
According to Dr. Jerry Riibe, MCSD Superintendent, the leak is significant.  Crews will begin pumping water out the basement today in order to be able to evaluate the extent of the damage.
The leak is expected to be found and corrected this week, and students will be able to return as scheduled on January 4.
The school will not need to make up the day of cancelled classes.
