99 County Bible Reading Marathon
Muscatine County Captain
This past week, beginning on Thursday, June 30 and ending on Sunday July 3rd, a successful reading of the Holy Bible, in its entirety, was held on the front lawn of the Muscatine County Court House.
The Governor of Iowa, Terry Brandstad, made a proclamation that the Word should be read at this time, at every court house, in every county in Iowa, and every day until the Lord returns.
I would like to first thank the County Board of Supervisors for their unanimous vote to OK the reading here in Muscatine.
I would like to also thank the churches who announced, emailed, spoke or otherwise gave their congregants opportunity to participate in this grass roots event. Among them being Wesley United Methodist, Island United Methodist, Fruitland Baptist, 1st Assembly of God, Mulford Evangelical Free Church, the Church of God, Glad Tidings Assembly of God, Jesus Mission, and Calvary.
I would like to thank KWPC and the Voice of Muscatine for covering this event from beginning to end, both in print and over the air waves.
I would also like to thank all of those who signed up online, to read for 15 minutes, 30 minutes or more. Also there were a considerable amount of folks who found out about the event after the fact, and just walked up to read as well, some more than once.
A special thanks to Heather and Joy, who spent a substantial amount of time and effort making sure that I took care of myself – Coffee, food and potty breaks! Earl and Brian, Patty and Dale, checked in on me during the long hours and helped to pack everything at the end of the day. Of course thanks to my husband Frank, who supports me in all of my endeavors. Countless others checked in just to make sure that all the time slots were full.
Isaiah 55:11 says “So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.” (NASB)
It is our belief that we will continue to see positive change in our county and our state since we have spoken God’s words of life over them.
To the community we give our thanks, and to our God, we give the glory.
