At approximately 15:58 on May 3rd, 2018 the Muscatine Joint Communications Center (MUSCOM) received a 911 call of a house on fire at the above residence. This is a single family dwelling. Upon arrival fire crews found a heavy smoke coming from the second floor. Police units who were on scene stated the second floor was fully involved. Crews initiated a fire attack and ‘knocked down’ the main body of fire within a few minutes and had the fire under control by 16:10. The fire had already caused damage to the second story of the structure. Once the main body of fire was extinguished crews worked to find any hidden fire and clear the building of smoke.

The fire department remains on scene and investigators are working to determine the area of origin and the cause. Loss estimate is approximately $35,000. The American Red Cross was called to assist two adults and one child displaced by the fire. There is smoke damage throughout and some structural damage on the second floor of the residence.

There were no injuries to responders or bystanders. The fire department also responded an emergency interfacility transfer while working to contain and control this fire.

The Muscatine Fire Department was assisted by the Fruitland Volunteer Fire Department and the Muscatine Police Department. Approximately 25 fire fighters responded to the fire, including some off duty personnel.
