In the February 24 edition of the Voice of Muscatine, we reported on the success of the Muscatine High School Speech and Debate team. In February, the team qualified three students to represent MHS in the national tournament of the National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) in June.

The team of Karissa Burton and Bria Holthe qualified in Duo Interpretation. Ezekial Ellis qualified in Dramatic Interpretation.

The freshman team of Jeremiah Daniels and Wyatt Mason qualified as top alternate in Duo Interpretation. Earlier this month, the duo interpretation team from Iowa City announced they were unable to compete in Nationals, automatically qualifying Daniels and Mason.

The team will head to Salt Lake City in June to compete against students from across the country. The team is coached by MHS Speech and Debate alum Davis Schrock, with the assistance of his wife Betsy. Schrock says, “I cannot ask for a better team and can’t wait to see what Nationals holds for us in Salt Lake City, Utah, this June!”
