Residents of the Muscatine Center for Social Action were treated to a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus and a holiday feast on December 13, thanks to Monsanto of Muscatine. This is the fourth year Monsanto of Muscatine has hosted this holiday celebration at MCSA.
Monsanto Plant Manager Shawn Schrader said, “We always used to send Christmas cards to our employees at the plant, and four years ago we had an idea that, instead of sending Christmas cards, we could use that money and donate it back to the community. We work with MCSA to sponsor a Christmas event for the guests and the children at the shelter.”
Children from both MCSA and the Domestic Violence Shelter had a chance to sit with Santa and have their picture taken, and then Monsanto employees had age-appropriate gifts ready for each child. In addition, the adults at the shelter received small gifts such as ornaments and gift cards.
After Santa’s visit, Monsanto employees served a meal to all the families and residents of MCSA. Chris Boar of Monsanto said they fed around 100 people.
Schrader said, “Seeing the joy on the kids’ faces and being able pass some of that joy on at this time of year to the residents is really impactful.”
