The Muscatine Community School District held public forums on Thursday, September 1 and Tuesday, September 6 to discuss the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL). The levy has been in place for approximately 30 years, yet needs to be re-voted on every ten years to keep active. The current levy is set to expire in 2020; however, the MCSD vote is scheduled for September 13. The funds are used for items such as improvements to grounds, technology and transportation. The funds cannot be used for items such as salaries.
MCSD is holding the vote early to allow sufficient time to re-evaluate plans for the future if the levy does not pass.
One of the potential plans for the future is the improvement and upgrading of the MHS gymnasium.
