Marjorie Hintermeister, 87, of Muscatine, passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Premier Estates. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 10, 2017, at 10:00 A.M. at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Interment will be in Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. Following the interment, a time of food and fellowship will be held at Calvary Church. Visitation for Marjorie will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2017 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials have been established at the funeral home for Calvary Church or the American Parkinsons Disease Assocation in Marjorie’s name. Sympathy notes may be left for the family at

Marjorie Violet Gritton was born on May 11, 1929, in Muscatine, Iowa the daughter of Lewis and Eunice (Matthews) Gritton. She was a lifelong area resident and graduate of Muscatine High School. On August 3, 1947, Marjorie was united in marriage to Clifford Hintermeister in Muscatine. Marjorie attended Calvary Church. She was a homemaker and a loving mother. Marjorie worked at Muscatine High School Cafeteria from 1975 until 1988, and worked at Muscatine Journal from 1989 until 1994. As an identical twin she was inseparable from her sister, and they were often mistaken for each other. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school for more than 30 years. She was also an active member of the church women’s group. Marjorie loved spending time and playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed working with ceramics and raising and training her dogs.

Marjorie will be deeply missed by her children, Edward Hintermeister and his wife, Virginia of Oakton, VA, Janice Hillman and her husband, Greg of Fruitland and Valerie Hintermeister of Muscatine; a twin sister, Margaret Webb Travis of Muscatine; one brother, Robert of Gritton of Russellville, Ark.; a brother-in-law, Burton Hintermeister and his wife, Carol of Wentzville, MO; four grandchildren, Aaron and April Hillman and Clara and Andrew Hintermeister and four great-grandchildren, Natalie, Cayden, Kellen and Kristopher.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clifford in 2005; two brothers, Dr. Charles Gritton and Paul Gritton; two sisters, Grace “Evelyn” Elliott and Vivian Irwin and one grandson, Michael Venard.
