L. Frances Krueger, 98, of Illinois City, died Monday, December 11, 2017, at Sunnybrook of Muscatine. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at the Illinois City United Methodist Chruch. Burial will be in Illinois City Cemetery. Following the interment, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Illinois City United Methodist Church. Visitation for Frances will be held on Friday, December 15, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to Illinois City United Methodist Church or the Andulasia Ambulance in Frances’ name. Sympathy notes may be left for the Krueger family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.
Lydia Frances Krueger was born on July 19, 1919 in Illinois City, the daughter of Arthur A and Jessie B. (Bendle) Mewes. Frances attended The Juilliard School of Music in California. She served her country in the Women Army Corps as a medical technician during World War II. She would entertain the patients by playing her accordion over the radio and on the medical units. On November 28, 1948 Frances was united in marriage to John William Krueger in Muscatine. Frances was a member of the Illinois City United Methodist Church where she played the piano and organ for over 50 years. She drove a school bus for Rockridge for 15 years. After moving to Sunnybrook, Frances continued to provide Sunday church music to the residents. The loves of her life were her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Frances will be deeply missed by her daughters, Linda C. (Thomas) Karge of Lancaster, Pennsylvania and Kathleen L. (Gary) Potter of Illinois City, Illinois; five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John in 2005 and brother, LeRoy Mewes.
