Hazel V. Barrick, 82, of Muscatine, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2017 at Sunnybrook Assisted Living. Memorial Service will be held on April 22, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services with Pastor Jeffrey Pautz, officiating. Following the services, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Community Room. Private family inurnment will be in Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Cremation rites have been facilitated by the FCS Life Transition and Cremation Center. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in Hazel’s name. Hazel Virginia Skipton was born on October 5, 1934 in Wapello, Iowa, the daughter of Frank W. and Pearl L. (Chrissinger) Skipton. On May 13, 1961, Hazel was united in marriage to Daniel M. Barrick in Kahoka, Missouri. Hazel worked for over twenty years as one of the first bus drivers for the City of Muscatine and received employee of the year in 1990. She often volunteered to organize parties and floats for co-workers and the transit system. After her retirement, Hazel spent time with special friends, Louis and Patty Shields. Tuesdays were “Coffee” days with Sherrie, Janet, Peg and Mae. She also enjoyed breakfasts with the “Bowling” girls. Hazel’s hobbies included sewing, baking, gardening and reading although her favorite was spending time with her grandchildren. She always attended as many ballgames, recitals, plays and school programs as she possibly could. Just last year she met her first great-grandchild.

Hazel is survived by her children, Cheryl (Bill) Petersen of Muscatine and their children, Max Petersen, Emily (Maxwell) Bloomquist and Joe Petersen, Thomas Snyder and friend, Michele Walton of Coralville, Diane (Thomas) Meyer of Muscatine and their children, Heather Meyer and friend Zack Flax and Matthew Meyer, Michael (Anna) Barrick of Colorado and children, Sierra Barrick, Lindsey Barrick and, Whitney (Colin) Tilbe and grandchild, Quinn and Beverly Turner of California and daughter, Kerry Ann Levenhagen; sisters, Edith Lucas, Jean Dusenberry and Shirley (Harry) Etter all of Muscatine; sister-in-law, Kay Skipton of Burlington; brother–in-law Fred (Mary Jo) Barrick of Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; husband in July of 2000; sister, Ivy “Sis” Charbonneau; brothers, Robert, Louie and Leonard Skipton.
