Obituary of Eugene “Gene” Newcomb

Eugene Newcomb, 64, of Letts, died, Monday, February 27, 2017 at his home surround by his loved ones. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 2, 2017 at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services of Columbus Junction. Nick Goddard will officiate. Burial will be in Letts Cemetery. Following the burial, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Letts Community Center. Visitation for Gene will be Wednesday, March 1, 2017 from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial has been established at the funeral home in Gene’s name. Eugene Leroy Newcomb was born on October 3, 1952 in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Marie (Hoyt) Newcomb Sr. Gene was a 1971 graduate of L-M High School. On January 20, 1973 he was united in marriage to Diane Kisner in Rock Island, Illinois. Gene retired in 2008 from Grain Processing Corporation with over thirty years of service. He then went on to work for Tri-Oak Foods in Oakville. He enjoyed working with his roses, fishing and going to the casino. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, his dog, Anakin and his cat, Pumpkin.

Gene will be deeply missed by his children, Kelly Newcomb of Letts, Dianna and her husband, Brian McDole of Riverside, Deanna and her husband, Chris McDonald of Springfield, Ohio, Patti and her husband, Johnny Cash of Grimes, Jamie Schildberg of Coralville and Genia and her husband, Jim Connor of Letts; 26 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; siblings, Esther Velasquez of Moline, Illinois, Clarence Newcomb, Jr. of Muscatine, Harold Newcomb and his wife, Carolyn of Illinois City, Illinois, Hazel Rickheim and her husband Everett of Wapello, Stella Newcomb of Davenport; Rodney Newcomb of Letts, Tina Campbell and her husband, Greg of West Liberty and Tara Jarbo and her husband, Jason of Solon; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his maternal grandparents, Eugene and Hazel Hoyt; paternal grandparents, Henry and Cleda Newcomb; daughter, Maggie Boyce; grandson, Kyle Newcomb; great-granddaughter, Kylie Newcomb-Orr; niece Caroline Rickheim and sons-in-laws, Marcel Regnier III and Tony Boyce.
