Charles LeRoy Cox, 84, of Eliza, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at his home.

Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Reverend Beth Nelson of the Eliza Community Church will officiate. Burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. on Friday, May 19, 2017, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Eliza Community Church. Charles was born on December 7, 1932, in Mercer County, the son of Ralph L. and Elda Hessman Cox. He married Mary Lou Rieke on November 25, 1955, in Muscatine.

He was a US Army veteran serving during the Korean War.

He was a lifelong farmer, sold Archer Oil Products, and enjoyed working with small engines. He was a member of the Eliza Community Church, the Eliza Lions Club, Eliza American Legion; and the Muscatine Elks BPO Lodge.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Mary Lou Cox of Eliza; one son, Tim Cox and wife, Tammy, of Eliza; one daughter, Denise Marston and husband, Randy, of Joy; six grandchildren, Ryan Cox and wife, Dorothy, Evan Marston and wife, Michelle, Dustin Marston and wife, Sarah, Kevin Cox, Ashley Bierman, and Brittany Cox; 15 great-grandchildren with one great-grandchild lovingly expected; one brother, Ralph L. ‘Red’ Cox and wife, Sharon, of Dolliver, Iowa; one sister, Elaine Czerwinski and husband, Mark, of Moline; one sister-in-law, Peggy Cox of Eliza; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Patrice; one grandson, Adam Marston; and one brother, Kenneth Cox.
