Mike Ruby of Muscatine was elected to the role of District Governor for Rotary District 6000. Ruby has asked the district to partner with World Bicycle Relief, an organization providing access to independence and livelihood through the power of bicycles. Muscatine’s Rotary chapter has set a goal to donate one bicycle, a value of $147.00, for each member of the Muscatine club.
“The money raised through our collective efforts will help to provide specially designed, locally assembled bicycles to students, healthcare workers, and entrepreneurs in rural Africa, connecting them with education, healthcare, and economic opportunities,” said Ruby.
In an appeal on the district website, Ruby stated, “We want to be instrumental in showing not only how a Buffalo bicycle can change the economic tree for an entire family, but how District 6000 Rotarians can come together to carry out the 2017-18 theme of Rotary: Making a Difference by making a big or small donation. It all helps.”
As of press time, Erika Cox, the president of the Rotary Club of Muscatine, stated that “We have nearly met our goal of raising the funds to donate a bicycle for every member of our club, and that is very exciting for us.”
