Muscatine defeated Davenport North 36-33 last Thursday evening at Brady Street Stadium. The emergence of Gavin Ashley as a big play threat on offense and the team’s will to win were major factors.
“Our guys fought,” said Muscatine Head Coach Jake Mueller. “This season hasn’t been easy, and there were a lot of times tonight when our team could have hung their heads and struggled, but we didn’t; we kept going and it paid off.”
The Wilton Beavers were excited about the challenge. Coming into the matchup with Class 1A third-ranked Iowa City Regina, the number ten-ranked Beavers knew it wasn’t going to come easy. “We knew we couldn’t stop them completely,” said Ryan Hetzler, Wilton Head Coach. “It was 6-0 at the end of the first quarter and we knew what we had to do. We just turned the ball over too much and it got away from us a little bit.” Wilton had five first-half turnovers and the Regals were able to pull away and win the contest 49-7. Wilton (5-1) will travel to Wapello on Friday.
