The Muscatine County Arts Council has a long-standing tradition of creating and supporting arts opportunities in Muscatine. Ed Chamberlain, who is currently on the council, said, “We want to keep doing neat things that keep the arts moving forward.” The council has sponsored the Eagles and Ivories Ragtime and Conservation festival for the past twenty-three years. One part of the festival included showing silent movies in the schools with a live piano player accompanying the film. This past April, the council put on the Wandering Words Sidewalk Poetry Competition. Local authors submitted up to two poems for consideration. The top five poems will be stamped into Muscatine sidewalks.
The Muscatine County Arts Council is hosting a fundraising event that will feature Iowa Blues Hall of Fame inductee Ernie Peniston. The event will take place at Ardon Creek Winery on Friday, July 22 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. “I think this going to be a really cool event,” said Chamberlain. “Hopefully it is a beautiful night. I think we can get four hundred people there.” Tickets for the event are $15.00. You can purchase them at the door or in advance at Ardon Creek or Flowers on the Avenue. Proceeds go to the Muscatine County Arts Council and their future projects.
