The Muscatine Community School District has released the following advisory for parents of students grade 7-12:
Meningitis vaccine requirements for 7th grade students
The Iowa Immunization Law has been amended requiring that ALL 7th grade students and older who were born after September 15, 2004, will need proof of one dose of the meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MenACWY). If your child does not have this vaccine before the start of the 2017-18 school year, they may not be allowed to start classes.
Meningitis vaccine requirements for 12th grade students
The Iowa Immunization Law has been amended requiring that ALL 12th grade students who were born after September 15, 1999, will need proof of two doses of the meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MenACWY). If your child does not have a record of this vaccine before the start of the 2017-18 school year, they may not be allowed to start classes.
Note: If your child received their first dose of MenACWY vaccine at 16 years of age or older, they will not need a second dose.
Tdap vaccine school requirement
The Iowa Department of Public Health requires ALL students born on or after September 15, 2000, to provide proof of an adolescent tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough) booster immunization (called Tdap).
As always, the district will accept a Certificate of Immunization Exemption as outlined by the Iowa Department of Public Health.
Trinity Muscatine Public Health is offering a back-to-school walk-in immunization clinic:
Please bring with you a parent or legal guardian, insurance card, and immunization record. Immunizations will be administered only to children who qualify for the Vaccines for Children Program, which include those who have Title 19 (Medicaid), have no health insurance, are American Indian or Native Alaskan, or have health insurance that does not cover immunizations.
If you have health insurance coverage for immunizations, we can assist you in scheduling an appointment with your healthcare provider.
There will be an administration fee of $19.68 plus an additional $1.00 fee per injection. Administration of vaccines will not be denied for failure to pay. Please voice concerns about payment when checking into the clinic.
