Looking for a Special Project in Business to fulfill an Introduction to Business class assignment, students decided a Muscatine Small Business Saturday effort would not only give them good business experience, it would also help local businesses connect with each other while promoting a great shopping opportunity. The class has received its Neighborhood Champion Kit from which includes posters, banners, floor mats, window decals, balloons, pins, pens, and tote bags all imprinted with the ShopSmall themed graphics. Participating businesses receive free customize digital marketing materials as well. The class has received enough materials to outfit each small business with all of the signage and about 20 tote bags per store. MCC Students will be delivering ShopSmall Kits to the participating businesses this week. Although the signup period is over for a small business to get their own kit, business may still signup online to get customized, digital promotional materials. The MCC Students, as Neighborhood Champions, are helping any local small business sign up to participate. Small Business Saturday is an annual shopping tradition dedicated to supporting small businesses and celebrating communities across the country. Founded by American Express in 2010, Small Business Saturday is celebrated every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Shop Small is about more than just shopping at small businesses. It’s a cause that helps to support local economies and promote vibrant, diverse communities. It’s also a nationwide movement fueled by shoppers, business owners, and organizers who come together and celebrate the community because they know it matters. Find out more at
