Twenty years ago on March 20, 1997, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Muscatine County was granted formal affiliation with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America as a program of the Muscatine Community YMCA. Since that date, the organization has served well over 1,000 youth with the number growing by over 200 each year. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Muscatine is a one –to-one mentoring program utilizing national standards to provide safe and quality relationships between youth and adults in our community. We have a vision to help all children achieve success.Community support is the key component of Big Brothers Big Sister’s success and ability to make, support, and strengthen mentoring relationships right here in Muscatine. Every spring the community is called on to help us with our fundraising needs by participating in Bowl for Kids’ Sake. Bowl for Kids’ Sake raises over 40% of the annual budget and is crucial to our operation and a tool to raise awareness, raise funds, and celebrate.

Community support is the key component of Big Brothers Big Sister’s success and ability to make, support, and strengthen mentoring relationships right here in Muscatine. Every spring the community is called on to help us with our fundraising needs by participating in Bowl for Kids’ Sake. Bowl for Kids’ Sake raises over 40% of the annual budget and is crucial to our operation and a tool to raise awareness, raise funds, and celebrate.

Individuals can gather a group of three or six and register as a Bowl for Kids’ Sake team. Participants then collect donations to help a youth in the community get matched with an adult mentor. The goal is to provide a caring and supportive relationship that will change the child’s life for the better, forever. Every donation is an investment in Muscatine’s youth. Youth in our program are improving their self-esteem, peer and family relationships, academics, and are less like to engage in risky behaviors. All of the money raised stays in Muscatine.

While fundraising is our main need and focus, we invite participants to join us for a “Thank You” bowling party. This is the big event; individuals/teams bring their donations to the bowling alley on March 25 and enjoy two hours of Glo-N-Bowl. Since this is the official 20-year celebration, we are celebrating 90s style! We encourage everyone to embrace the theme.

If bowling isn’t for you but you want to help with the event, there are other options: make a donation, volunteer, visit the silent auction portion of our event, participate in the trivia for great door prizes, or become a Big.
